Services

We offer a full range of care covering both the physical and emotional needs of our patients. We utilize state-of-the-art  technology in breast cancer screening and diagnostic evaluation to provide the best and most comprehensive care possible. Full Field Digital Mammography (FFDM)

Digital mammography has been shown in mutlicenter trials to be superior to analog (film) mammography for certain patient populations—for example, in premenopausal women and women with dense breast tissue.  The CBC is an entirely digital facility. (back)

High-resolution breast ultrasound

At many facilities, ultrasound evaluations are performed by technologists.  At the CBC, all ultrasounds are performed by our physicians using state-of-the-art equipment. (back)

Minimally invasive, image-guided breast biopsy

At the CBC we perform the full range of minimally invasive breast and axillary lymph node  biopsies--from fine needle aspiration to core needle biopsy  to vacuum-assisted breast biopsies--using digital mammography (aka “stereotactic biopsy”) and/or ultrasound for image guidance.  These procedures are performed in our outpatient facility through a tiny 3 mm incision.  In almost all cases, biopsy results are available the next day.  Once our MRI is installed, we will be performing MR-guided breast biopsies as well. Bone densitometry testing

Bone densitometry, also called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA) or bone density scanning, is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss.  DEXA is today's established standard for measuring bone mineral density (BMD) to assess for bone loss and osteoporosis. (back)

Comprehensive breast cancer team conferences

The CBC facilitates the coordination of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment through a weekly multidisciplinary breast cancer conference attended by community radiologists, pathologists, medical and surgical oncologists, nurse navigators/coordinators, radiation therapists, and other care providers.  Newly diagnosed breast cancer cases are presented, optimal treatment plans are discussed, and the recommendations are reviewed with the patient and family.  The goal of the cancer conference is to rapidly expedite and optimize  treatment planning, and to ultimately save the lives of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Dedicated breast MRI and MRI-guided biopsy coming soon

We will soon be installing a state-of-the-art MRI dedicated to breast imaging with a table/coil specifically designed for patient comfort during high-quality breast imaging and biopsy.   Dr. Amodei is excited to bring her knowledge and experience with breast MRI and MR biopsy from Johns Hopkins to the CBC.
